Dear Friends,
Courage is an essential quality on this path. It empowers us to face challenges, stay present, and remain committed to our growth. Here is a talk and meditation from DaRa Williams, titled “Reflections, Guidance, and Courage.” DaRa explores the many dimensions of courage, drawing from a framework that includes physical, emotional, social, moral, intellectual, and spiritual courage.*
DaRa highlights how courage manifests in our practice, guiding us to stay grounded in the body and breath as reliable anchors. She emphasizes persistence and dedication, reminding us that consistent effort, even in the face of challenges, nurtures resilience and strength.
In the meditation, she invites us to check in with the body, heart, and mind, cultivating gratitude and awareness of the four elements: earth, fire, water, and wind. This practice encourages simplicity, presence, and connection, helping us embody courage in meditation and daily life.
You can access the 42 minute recording here:

The first 10 minutes are reflections on courage, followed by reflections on practice. The meditation starts at about 15 minutes.
As you engage in practice today, you may want to reflect on which type of courage resonates most with your current experience. Does grounding in the body and breath support you in embracing courage in both practice and life?
Let me know what you discover.
With good wishes,
Andrea

Today I heard an interesting talk on CBC Bookends with Mattea Roach. She interviewed Amy Lin, author of Hereafter, a Grief Memoir. She said something to the effect that courage is passed from others’ hands, that you need a community to support courage. I found this idea reassuring–like it’s not just a solitary effort. Thank you Andrea.
Hi Dianne, Thanks for sharing your insights from this CBC program. I love the idea that courage is supported by community. We can draw strength and inspiration from those around us, and it is so important to remember this in difficult times. I appreciate you bringing this dimension into the reflection–it adds such a meaningful perspective.
