Dear Friends,
Here’s a short exercise to bring mindfulness to the changing nature of feeling tone.
Mark Coleman, in week 8 of the on-line course Essential Buddhist Teachings 1, said,
“Another thing about pleasant experiences is how quickly we acclimatize.”
For this exercise, he suggests that you eat one of your favorite pieces of food, and notice the difference between the first bite and the 10th bite.
First bite might be, “wow, this is really good – no wonder it’s my favorite food”
Second bite might be, “yeah, it’s pretty good”
Third bite might be, “it’s good”.
At some point it might be, “what’s next?”
He suggests the senses become dulled by contact.
Perhaps you can try this today! What do you notice?
With best wishes,
Andrea G
